Happy Earth Day!
Today is all about celebrating the wonderful world that we live in and, with this year’s theme, thinking about how we can invest in the planet for our future.
The simplest answer, living more sustainably.
As we talked about in our Invest in Nature article, Earth is our only home, and we are entirely dependent on its finite resources for our survival and well-being. This means we have to live in a way that can support all species on Earth now and for future generations.
It’s not just the environment that’s at stake either; living sustainability also means promoting economic development, racial equality, and quality health care.
For many of us in today’s world, living sustainably requires a whole lifestyle shift, and, for many reasons, a lot of people can find it off-putting. It can be easy to start recycling, but reducing the amount you eat, travel, consume, waste, and practically everything else you can think of is daunting.
Yet, developing sustainable habits that we put into practice every day is better for our planet and for ourselves.

Admittedly, for most of us, we aren’t thinking about the environment and our effects on the planet all the time. So, why not think about the impact these changes could have on you specifically?
One of the most important things about living sustainably is simply using less, and that means spending less too.
That’s not to say it can’t be expensive to buy eco-friendly products. LED lights, for example, which consume much less energy. This is where it’s important to remember that nobody becomes 100% climate-positive and zero-waste overnight. It takes time.
Little by little, building sustainable habits can make a lifestyle that’s not only more affordable but can keep you healthy or help you get involved in your local community. All of these actions help to build a sense of purpose, which can make us happier in the long run.
Perhaps, in the end, this is the most important reason we should live sustainably. Not to avoid disaster, but just because it’s better for all of us.
A huge part of living sustainably is being a ‘conscious consumer’, or more simply making sure what you buy is good for people and the planet. A great way to do this is to buy from companies with these values in mind.
One great example is the Happy Earth Company. They understand that people want to live sustainably, but they also want to buy nice things and have it be easy, fun, and exciting to do good for the planet.
